A Dual Perspective
Scenario
Ever wondered how a visually impaired person navigates a website, or what goes through a kid’s mind when they click around? Let’s slip into their shoes and learn to design accessibly, peppered with playful interactions.
Strategy
Pick one of the two personas and I'll show you the ropes of an entire UX process through their eyes.
Our end goal? A delicious PBJ sandwich that reveals the ins and outs of great design process and customized writing, one bite at a time.

A super-awesome PBJ guide to product design
Hey there, young geniuses! Today, we're diving into the world of designing, by learning how to make the ultimate PBJ sandwich!

Understanding the building blocks
To help make our recipe the best in the world, we need to understand the following words:
Design is the planning and creating of these cool and useful products. Just like drawing your dream fort before you build it. You are a designer!
What is design?
A product is anything people use- a toy, an app, or a snack. Today, our product is a yummy PBJ sandwich.
What is a product?
A process is a set of steps used to make the product great (like a recipe for your favorite PBJ!) We follow steps to design.
What is a process?
A user is anybody who enjoys using what you build. If you make a lemonade stand, anyone who drinks your lemonade is a user!
Who's a user?
User experience is how someone (the user) feels when they use your product. Did they like it? Is it fun to use? Easy? Exciting? All that's a part of the user experience!
What is a user experience?
Now let's dive into our PBJ product design!
Ask Mom or think about what are her favorites?
Be a dectective
Which jelly does she love more, Strawberry or Blueberry?

Which peanut butter is her favorite, Crunchy or Smooth?
A perfect gift matches the receiver perfectly. Our adventure begins by finding out (doing a bit of research) what makes a PBJ sandwich the perfect one for our special someone— Mom!
Dreaming up our super sandwich
Every great mission starts with a map and gathering of right tools. Think of ideas to make our PBJ cool and make sure we have everything we need.
Choose your sandwich shape —A classic diagonal cut or a love filled heart?
Would you like to add little extra magic? Maybe dribble some honey or a sprinkle of cinnamon?

Crafting our PBJ
Armed with our imaginative plans, it’s time to create our PBJ. This is where our ideas take shape into something delicious and real!
Steps to build the epic PBJ you imagined—

Prepare
Lay out 2 slices of soft bread on a clean plate

Spread
Take a butter knife and coat one slice with peanut butter

Jelly Time
Gently spread the jelly on the other slice (or on both!)

Combine
Carefully put the two slices together, peanut butter meets jelly and give a gentle press!

Enjoy
And there you have it! Your tasty PBJ is ready

Extra Crunch
Lightly toast your bread at the start for a golden goodness!
Special instructions note
Great design connects to its audience through words. Let’s add a personal touch to our PBJ gift with a meaningful note for Mom.
What do you want to tell Mom? Here are some lines to get you started-

For Mom,
with hugs and jelly
in every bite!

Hey Mom,
this PBJ's got
all my love
squished inside!
Delightful Sampling
Every great design needs to be tested. Before we surprise Mom, we have to try the PBJ and check if our sandwich is as yummy as planned or needs improvement.
Ask a friend or family member if the sandwich ready to wow Mom?
Taste it! Is it yummy? Is the blend of peanut butter and jelly just right? Does it look like your drawing?
If something doesn't taste right or could be better, no worries! Feel free to go back and edit.
Add more peanut butter?

Add some jelly?

Presenting our masterpiece
Present your super duper PBJ to Mom watch her be amazed by your special gift!
Congratulations! You are now a real designer.

You’ve learned how to think about others, plan creatively, and design something awesome. Designing is fun and about making people happy. You can create cool things by caring about the user and trying new things.
